Gary Pennington is a hands-on designer. He prides himself on being involved in every aspect of the design process from concept through to production. Pennington’s design career started at Allermuir UK, a design-led contemporary furniture manufacturer. He became the first in-house designer to successfully design and develop their own product range. The Geo range of chairs and stools was released in 2001 at the Worlds Trade Fair in Chicago, and remained in the companies' portfolio for over a decade.
Pennington became Senior Designer at Allermuir. Managing the design team and working on varied furniture designs from internationally renowned designers. During this period he also designed and produced his second furniture range for the company. The Dandy soft seating collection became an instant success when released in 2006.
After immigrating to Australia in 2008 Gary became the head Industrial Designer at the Adelaide zoo. The experience inspired him to pursue a more sustainable approach to his design.
Now based in Melbourne Australia Gary is the founder of the Tane Design studio, producing designs with an emphasis on sustainability, through material choices, longevity and restoration of products.
