Marc Sadler is a French citizen, born in Austria, and an adopted Italian.
He was one of the first graduates in “esthétique industrielle” (industrial aesthetics) at the ENSAD in Paris and became a pioneer in material experimentation and the contamination of different technologies, which became distinctive aspects of his work.
In the early 1970s, he developed the first ski boot made of entirely recyclable thermoplastic material, later industrialized by the Italian company Caber (owned by the Caberlotto family, who would later found Lotto). This achievement quickly earned him responsibility for all product lines and established a long collaboration marked by the patent of the ski boot with a symmetrical shell, which remained the best-selling ski boot in the world for many years.
This specialization in sports design led him to work with the most important multinational companies in the industry worldwide, not only in sports shoes but also in various other sports sectors such as skiing, tennis rackets, golf clubs, and more. His background in an industry where research and experimentation with new materials and production processes are commonplace enabled him to export knowledge to places where the concept of design is limited in the aesthetic form.
Four-time winner of the Compasso d’Oro ADI (Industrial Design Association) for lamps such as Drop by Flos (1994), Tite and Mite by Foscarini (2001), the Big bookcase by Caimi Brevetti (2008), and the Bellevue ice cream counter with Panorama technology by IFI (2014), along with four ADI Honorable Mentions (BAP back protector for Dainese in 1994, Alu-Kit kitchen by Bof in 1998, Twiggy lamp by Foscarini in 2008, and Ghost Linear lighting system by Simes in 2018), he has received many signifcant international awards over the years. The back protector he designed for Dainese is in the design collection of MOMA in New York, while the Mite lamp by Foscarini is part of the design collection of the Beaubourg in Paris.
Today, recognized as an eclectic designer capable of combining style, functionality, and competitiveness for companies in various industries venturing into a global and increasingly complex market, Marc Sadler is passionate about painting and drawing. He is emotionally involved with these pursuits, considering them his most authentic interests, despite his well-deserved reputation.
