As one of the world’s most influential architecture and design firms, Gensler is known for setting the benchmark in workplace innovation. Their Washington, D.C. office is no exception — recently redesigned as a creative zone to support a variety of working styles, from collaborative meetings to solo spaces — all with a focus on Sustainability.
To achieve a space that balanced flexibility, sustainability, and acoustic performance, the team turned to Mute Modular— a fully customisable room-in-room system designed to evolve with changing needs. Working in close consultation with Mute Studio, Gensler installed 12 Modular spaces across the office, including phone booths, meeting rooms, lounge areas and private work zones.
Mute Modular’s reusability was one reason Gensler opted to use it in their office redesign. (After all, Gensler is known for its unwavering commitment to sustainable design. Interior Design gave the company the top slot on their 2024 Sustainability Giants list). Thanks to the lightweight construction of prefabricated, compatible modules that can be easily reconfigured many times over, Gensler can modify the set using the same elements in step with the company’s changing needs—all while saving on the environmental costs associated with traditional refurbishment.
The result is a seamless, scalable solution that meets Gensler’s exacting standards for design, functionality, inclusivity and sustainability — reflecting the future of adaptable workspaces.
